    Handmade for Haiti

We keep hearing about celebrities donating a million dollars to Haiti relief efforts. I wish our little familia had a million dollars to donate too. But we don't. We have bills, bills, bills.

But we do have art and craft supplies!

Today and tomorrow (Sunday and Monday), we are donating 100% of our Etsy store sales and even what is left of our Yahoo merch to Doctors Without Borders.

Even though daily life can be a struggle, it is nothing compared to what these people are going through right now. I know our crafty donations will be a drop in the bucket, but at least it is something!

NOTE: Other crafty friends of mine are doing the same! Chick out Vickie Howell's fund-raising efforts, as well as Alisa Burke!

This is from our new "Halfway Handmade" collection. This scarf has Dia de los Muertos scenes that Patrick drew on it with a black Crafty Chica permanent fabric marker. You can wear the scarf, or cut it and use it in your personal fabric collages. This scarf measures 8 x 54" and is made from Habotai silk. You can dye it or color it any way you like! All you have to do is continue coloring with your own Crafty Chica fabric markers!

Here is one I made recently so you can see how vibrant it looks once you are done!:

After 2,000 orders & 8 years of good times, we decided to move.

After almost 2,000 orders and eight years of good times, we decided to move away from our Yahoo store.

I never thought we would move. The whole reason we went to Yahoo was because the first company we used, GoBizGo, went under and we lost our orignal URL, clients, photos, all of it. It was so traumatic for a young business! I figured at the time (2002) that Yahoo would never go under.I wanted long term security.

When Etsy first came around and all my friends, both local and national, used it, I knew I should have a place there, but I didn't know in what capacity. Many people these days launch their businesses on Etsy, we already had an established shop at Yahoo.

I finally opened a small shop on Etsy.com just to feel it out. I've had it a few years and without even really promoting it, its done well for us. We started looking hard at the $50 per month fee from Yahoo, plus the fees. But our reluctance was that Etsy didn't reflect the personality of our shop that our customers liked. That's where Squarespace came in. I used it for MayaInTheMoment.com and for ChicaWriter.com, and was impressed!

We decided as a New Year's Resolution to make the change. I know many of you will ask,"Why not ArtFire.com"? The reason is I haven't had time to fully experiment with it. I know it is a lovely site, and I read up on the pros and cons between it and Etsy. I'm intrigued! I will definately check it out and as soon as I get caught up, I'll open a little test store there too!

But for now, here is our new site, I hope you like it! Our little cyber store has always been our bread and butter of our artful lives and I hope that continues. We love making things and sharing them!

NEW: We've added a collection called "Halfway Handmade." These are items we made halfway and then are selling them so YOU can finish them. Please send pictures of what you use them for and we'll post them here.

COMING SOON: Patrick's Dis de los Muertos Framed Prints. There are so many, DeAngelo is going to try and get them up a.s.a.p.

    Peace, love and glitter!

    Kathy :-)

P.S. Two thumbs up to our son, DeAngelo, for making this site for us!

Original, shiny, glittery, Chicano art made by us - Patrick Murillo & Kathy Cano-Murillo of Phoenix, AZ. We've been making our art since 1990! We vowed to live an artful life through art, music and writing. 19 years later, we are still doing it. We make it, sell it, share it, teach it, write about it, demo it on TV, and even sell it as a national Crafty Chica product line!

Our work has been sold everywhere from galleries and major retail chains to museum stores and art boutiques! Our pieces range from small to huge, we've done it all!

This is the site where we sell our original creations that we make in our Phoenix art studio (our living room). If you want inspirations to make your own, visit our other site - CraftyChica.com.
